Made my mind up!…….Not!

As you know I not long made my mind up that I decided I was going to have typetalk through my laptop, but I’m not having this now as I’ve discovered that if my laptop is off or just on standby then no messages will be able to be left on auto-respond. So just as I thought this was going to be handy for me its not, as the last thing I would like to do when leaving my flat is to leave the laptop on unattended. But they have told me in an email that they may consider later in storing messages centrally (for later access) in a future version of TalkByText Home Edition, if there’s sufficient interest from users. So I in the meantime may go for communicator.

New Badge – Review

badge-001

I was going to review this badge in the New Year, but as I’ve already made my mind up about this badge, I thought I’d post my review of it on my blog now.

When I first received my badge, my first impressions were I did not think this badge was worth £3 ………… and I bought two of these! But I wasn’t going to return them as I needed a badge that was hopefully going to be more noticeable on my uniform at work.

I took one of these badges to work to put on my uniform to find the catch was awkward. Again I know I should have sent it back, but I didn’t. A week later the fastener on this badge dropped to bits. So I brought my other badge in, in which the fastener was fine on this one, and currently as this post goes on air I’m still wearing it. But as you will see in the photo on the left, the ‘t’ at the start of talking has blurred. For this to happen a spot of water must have gone on it, but if this was an enamel or metal badge like past badges I’ve worn, this would not have happened, and they were much cheaper too! This photo of my badge how its now gone was taken after just one week wearing it.

So my round up conclusion of this badge is its not worth the money because of the materials used. This badge is plastic with the wording etc.. stuck on with a sheen to it. The badge will wear in time at the corners, which there’s a start of it on mine but nothing too bad just yet. But for the positive side, the badge was noticeable.

But when it comes to me needing a new one, I shall hopefully find a badge like this somewhere but using better materials like metal or enamel. So if any UK based badge making businesses are reading this, and can make me a badge like this one but in metal or enamel then please let me know, as I’ll be very interested.

Made my mind up!

I’ve made my mind up in regarding what communication I’ll next be using. As you know in earlier posts I were trying to get my head around whether I’d use talk by text mobile edition, in which I was querying about a few mobile phones etc… the other was talk by text home edition in which I’d have to use my PC for this. Or go for the Screen phone which so far was top of list for suitability for me.

But since that post I feel the talk by text home edition would be more suitable for me with me knowing my way round a PC. So next year at some point I will get this and get my broadband connection sorted too for it, as currently I use a mobile broadband which is not ideal.

Bluetooth neckloop

pictures-and-video-001pictures-and-video-002This is what I use at the moment with my mobile phone, so I can follow conversations better, which I use my loop setting on my hearing aid with this.  Although as I’ve said in earlier posts it only tends to be with people I know now, because I still struggle even with people I know and it varies from day to day, but with anyone else after finding I don’t manage, I’ve gave up on that. But I wouldn’t be without this. This is available from the RNID Solutions catalogue for anyone who is interested. Its easy to use and light, so you don’t know you are wearing it, and has a good battery life before it needs to be charged up again.

Decisions decisions

As you know I’ve been enquiring from you on my blog about certain mobile phones because of thinking what I’d eventually use as my next level of communication. And I’m still rather undecided and confused, so not deciding anything just yet.

To make it easier for myself I’m writing down on separate sheets of paper for each one I’m debating on, the advantages and disadvantages. The following three I’m looking at is:- Screen Phone, Talk by text Mobile Edition or Talk by text Home Edition. I have not finished off my list yet for the advantages and disadvantages for myself using anyone one of these three, but so far, for me, the screen phone seems to be the best option.

If anyone uses any of these three I’m deciding on then please leave me comments, as I will be very interested. Thank you :)

Anybody use the Nokia 9500 with talk by text

Any body out there use the above mentioned phone with the talk by text mobile edition.

As you know in earlier pots I’ve been enquiring about a few mobile phones. I’ve decide G1 phone is no good for me with the internet connection always being on, as I like to stay on PAYG. And I’m not bothered about the iphone, although I think its good its not for me. So I’m looking at info on the internet regarding this phone and how available it is, with the talk by text mobile edition being available. So if I was to take a different route in the way I communicate then this phone would be for me. But before I do I’d like to hear from other HOH or deaf people that use this phone and the software thats available seperately for your views. Any comments welcome.

I’m also aware now and so add it to this post that the Nokia E90 is now the replacement to the Nokia 9500, so can anyone tell me if this software will also work for this phone?

Apple iphone & G1 phone. Anyone got one?

Has anyone got the Apple iphone? I’m thinking of buying this one later next year but after more info like how it works, and what its got before I do. Any comments about this phone are appreciated :)

Also the G1 phone which I’m still interested in, although I was concerned about the internet connection always being on, and a security threat I recently read somewhere. Does anyone have this phone, and what do you think in general about it. Are you happy with it. Any comments would be helpful here too :)

Both these phones have had good reviews from what I’ve seen and I’m still torn between the two, but I’d be grateful for comments on these two phones, good or bad.

Here’s a new badge I’m trying out

new-bdge-001This is a new badge I ordered which I received today, which I’ll be wearing for work. Usuall I wear other badge (see earlier post) but it does not get noticed very well since my uniform was changed. So this should stand out better.

Its ideal for the deaf and hard of hearing like me. I came across the site that sells these after doing a search for badges, to see what else was out there than I’m aware of already. This caught my eye because hopefully by wearing this is saves repeating myself to people I may come across to please look at me while speaking, and it will hopefully stand out better on my uniform.

Its available from http://www.disabledstickers.co.uk/miscellaneous-15-c.asp
