My new ear moulds

Collected my new ear moulds today from Audiology, with my butterfly inside them, that I wanted. The butterfly in my moulds are more noticeable than I’d thought they’d be. But that’s alright. Even better than expected.

I can tell the difference wearing new moulds. I definitely needed a new right one particular, with me having this one since 2002. Putting my new ear moulds was like wearing them the first time round. For example having to pull my ear slightly to get my ear mould in properly. My voice feels like it’s in my head slightly too, but it’s soon starting to wear off. And the moulds feel a little bit bulky. But I’m happy with them so far.

The only thing I’ve noticed which I did not observe until at home, was that I don’t have any air vents in these, so I will have to see how I go. Looking at them I don’t think they would be able to put them in, in these if I wanted them.

Got it sorted!

Received an email from PALS after I complained about Audiology. They had spoken to a Specialist Audiologist on there about my difficulties, and I have her email address as so when I need to contact them for repairs, or appointments, I could use her email to do that.

Which when I tried this email address, it worked! So I’ll be collecting my tubing for my hearing aids today.

Ended up putting in a complaint to PALS after all!

Well today I ended up putting in a complaint to PALS about Audiology. To see in depth the problem I had with them, look under tag ‘Audiology’ and this will bring up the two posts I previously written.

I needed to contact them today so I could request tubing for my hearing aids, so they have warning like they wanted so it would be ready to collect later that day. Although for my convenience I wasn’t in any hurry so wasn’t planning to collect until Friday.

So using this other email address that was given to me when I had to last time call in, because previous email address wasn’t working, I started to write my email out as advised and put in the address they had given, only to find this was not going anywhere either. There was no way I was going to play about with this email address like I did with the other for half an hour, only to probably find the same thing it not going anywhere, so I’ve emailed PALS and told them the problem, and asking them to either email me or get Audiology to as so its typed down as it should be put, as to save any confusion, and hopefully…. this time…. I’ll have a working email address!

I’ll keep you posted!

Email did not work

As you know I had problems last year regarding access in Audiology, and finally I was given an email address to contact them that way, should I need future appointments with them, when I cannot hear well on the phone to do it.

Well I had the inconvenience of going into Audiology to make an appointment for tube change on my hearing aids as the email given to me did not work. I could not get in today when I asked if I could get in now, due to me having to come down and make it with the email not being recognised, but I was given some tubes so I could put them in myself, which I did not mind because I’ve done them twice before. The receptionist was quiet surprised to find this email did not work, but I was given another email to contact her, in which when I do I’m to address it to her so it gets to her ok. So we’ll see if this one works better when time comes to contacting them…. I imagine it will anyway, as this compared to the last email looks like a proper email address.

Audiology Access. What’s yours like?

What’s the access like at your Audiology? Until I started having more hearing difficulties, and using my mobile phone wasn’t an option to contact them, when making an appointment, I did not realise just how difficult accessing mine was. Unless I have a landline phone and use typetalk (which I don’t, and at the moment don’t want), then the only way you contact them is phone.

I wrote to Head of Audiology back in June this year about this communication difficulty for me, and I’m sure I’m not the only one, and suggested email or texting as another option to contact them. I had a lovely email back in acknowledgement. He said that he would look into this texting option, and told me they used to have a textphone facility, which was used by one individual until it became irreparable in 2003, so an Audiology Email account was set up. (I’ve been using them since 2002, and did not even know that this existed). The person monitoring it retired last year, and a nominated person to deal with it went on long term sick, in the new year. This was before they managed to get an I.T. to enable access, but she’s just returned to work, and he said he would get her to expedite this.

Well since that email, I’ve asked the receptionist on two occassions about this email account. The first occassion after saying they have not got one, she said you could always come in and make an appointment. I doubt she would do that if she wanted to make an appointment with someone, I bet she’d pick up the phone and do it that way. So why should I be treated any different? The last time I asked she said they don’t have one. I replied you do, cos I wrote to Head of Audiology, and he said he’ll get you to set it up. After that with a disgusted look on her face, she said, well we are moving next week into the new building. (which they were) So I ended the conversation there.

Well I go to Audiology tomorrow, after my boyfriend kindly made the appointment for me on my behalf, as my left hearing aid is not working. So when I get there, I shall be asking again about the email account facility, because they been settled in that building for nearly two months now, where they are close together with other departments, so it’s now an Ear, Nose and Throat. And if I get the same answer again, then as promised in a recent email to Head of Audiology, I will take this matter further.

It’s disgusting that Audiology of all places has poor access like this, when it’s supposed to cater for the Deaf. I don’t have this problem with my mobile company, when I need to get in contact with them. So why of all places should I have this problem with Audiology, and end up fighting for my right which is clearly been broken. These are the people who are supposed to understand our deaf needs.
