Made my mind up!…….Not!
As you know I not long made my mind up that I decided I was going to have typetalk through my laptop, but I’m not having this now as I’ve discovered that if my laptop is off or just on standby then no messages will be able to be left on auto-respond. So just as I thought this was going to be handy for me its not, as the last thing I would like to do when leaving my flat is to leave the laptop on unattended. But they have told me in an email that they may consider later in storing messages centrally (for later access) in a future version of TalkByText Home Edition, if there’s sufficient interest from users. So I in the meantime may go for communicator.

New Badge – Review

I was going to review this badge in the New Year, but as I’ve already made my mind up about this badge, I thought I’d post my review of it on my blog now.
When I first received my badge, my first impressions were I did not think this badge was worth £3 ………… and I bought two of these! But I wasn’t going to return them as I needed a badge that was hopefully going to be more noticeable on my uniform at work.
I took one of these badges to work to put on my uniform to find the catch was awkward. Again I know I should have sent it back, but I didn’t. A week later the fastener on this badge dropped to bits. So I brought my other badge in, in which the fastener was fine on this one, and currently as this post goes on air I’m still wearing it. But as you will see in the photo on the left, the ‘t’ at the start of talking has blurred. For this to happen a spot of water must have gone on it, but if this was an enamel or metal badge like past badges I’ve worn, this would not have happened, and they were much cheaper too! This photo of my badge how its now gone was taken after just one week wearing it.
So my round up conclusion of this badge is its not worth the money because of the materials used. This badge is plastic with the wording etc.. stuck on with a sheen to it. The badge will wear in time at the corners, which there’s a start of it on mine but nothing too bad just yet. But for the positive side, the badge was noticeable.
But when it comes to me needing a new one, I shall hopefully find a badge like this somewhere but using better materials like metal or enamel. So if any UK based badge making businesses are reading this, and can make me a badge like this one but in metal or enamel then please let me know, as I’ll be very interested.

Made my mind up!
I’ve made my mind up in regarding what communication I’ll next be using. As you know in earlier posts I were trying to get my head around whether I’d use talk by text mobile edition, in which I was querying about a few mobile phones etc… the other was talk by text home edition in which I’d have to use my PC for this. Or go for the Screen phone which so far was top of list for suitability for me.
But since that post I feel the talk by text home edition would be more suitable for me with me knowing my way round a PC. So next year at some point I will get this and get my broadband connection sorted too for it, as currently I use a mobile broadband which is not ideal.

Bluetooth neckloop

This is what I use at the moment with my mobile phone, so I can follow conversations better, which I use my loop setting on my hearing aid with this. Although as I’ve said in earlier posts it only tends to be with people I know now, because I still struggle even with people I know and it varies from day to day, but with anyone else after finding I don’t manage, I’ve gave up on that. But I wouldn’t be without this. This is available from the RNID Solutions catalogue for anyone who is interested. Its easy to use and light, so you don’t know you are wearing it, and has a good battery life before it needs to be charged up again.

Had to take it further and now its sorted!
Ended up contacting The Financial Ombudsman about my bank as I still not heard from them. I got a letter a few days ago from The Financial Ombudsman telling me that they wrote to my bank to tell them I had a complaint with them, and that I was to give them a few days from this letter as so they have chance to sort this complaint out, giving me the details of the person they wrote to and address. They told me if I wasn’t to hear from them in the next few days then I was to write to them, reminding them that The Financial Ombudsman had also written to them. If it came to me writing to my bank, then I was to give 8 weeks for them to respond, and if I did not hear anything or I wasn’t satisfied then I had to fill a form in provided by The Financial Ombudsman to take my complaint further through them.
Well yesterday I received a letter from my bank with lots of apologies regarding not getting to me and putting a phone number at the bottom for me to call, and I was given a clear explanation what I was to expect regarding service that I’ve been waiting for. So I am now happy. But why couldn’t they just done this in the first place?

Do you hide or show off your hearing aids?
I remember when I first started to wear my hearing aids I wanted to cover them up, then slowly over a few months I gradually started to tie my hair back, until it was all tied back. Now I don’t mind showing my hearing aids off, so I wear my hair as I feel, except for when I’m at work in which I do have to tie it back there.
In fact I think I purposely tie it back sometimes just to show them off, as so it saves me mentioning I’m HOH. But because I speak ok as other people say, they don’t see my hearing aids unless I mention about my hearing problem. Sometimes it starts off a conversation with some people when they find out, which I don’t mind as it gets the message across.
I’ve done a poll below to see if you hide or show off your hearing aids, so please vote. It doesn’t matter what type of hearing aid you wear.

Do you go swimming?
I have not been swimming since I was about 18 years old. Not a good swimmer either, but thats not the bit that bothers me. I’ve been asked a few times by a couple of people if I’d like to go swimming with them, but I can’t seem to pluck up the courage to go. I know I shouldn’t be doing this, and I don’t usually, but I am stopping myself because of my deafness, because I know I will have to take my hearing aids out. After all they are not waterproof.
If I do manage to pluck up the corage to go, I’m more likely to go with my boyfriend first, as I’m comfortable taking out my hearing aids when I’m around him.
Does anyone else here that views my blog go swimming too? How do you get on?

Decisions decisions
As you know I’ve been enquiring from you on my blog about certain mobile phones because of thinking what I’d eventually use as my next level of communication. And I’m still rather undecided and confused, so not deciding anything just yet.
To make it easier for myself I’m writing down on separate sheets of paper for each one I’m debating on, the advantages and disadvantages. The following three I’m looking at is:- Screen Phone, Talk by text Mobile Edition or Talk by text Home Edition. I have not finished off my list yet for the advantages and disadvantages for myself using anyone one of these three, but so far, for me, the screen phone seems to be the best option.
If anyone uses any of these three I’m deciding on then please leave me comments, as I will be very interested. Thank you
