Hello world!

Posted in Uncategorized on October 7, 2008 by l1zblog

Hello and welcome to my blog. I’m HOH and this blog was created so I hopefully came across other HOH people like me in the Nottinghamshire area, to discuss deaf issues that affect us. But regardless of where you live, or whether your HOH like me, or Deaf. You are welcome on this site.

And although this is mainly to discuss deaf issues, I’m sure I will be doing other posts we could chat about too.

Does anyone else have problems with avatars using firefox browser?

Posted in Non-deaf topics, Problems on February 8, 2010 by l1zblog

The avatar page where you create the yahoo cartoon characters has never worked for me, when using firefox. The avatar preview box stays plain white and blank and says undefined Does anyone know how this can be fixed please?

But if I use Windows Explorer 8, it’s fine.

Any help appreciated thanks. :)

What a cock up!

It dawned on me today that 11th February did not fall on Wednesday, as written on my appointment card. It fell on Thursday instead. So I had to phone ENT to see which day they wanted me. It turned out neither. My appointment is instead on Wednesday 24th February. I asked her to repeat, just in case I heard wrong, and I still heard the same. I mentioned to her what had been written on my card, and said I’m glad I’ve phoned now, because I would have travelled for a few hours for nothing, all because someone written down my appointment completely wrong.

I just hope now, like my Mum said when I told her, that she has not got it wrong, who I spoke to on the phone.

I’m disgusted

Posted in Non-deaf topics on February 3, 2010 by l1zblog

Not so long ago I did a ‘Google’ of my blog to see how popular it was, and a bit of my content was used to promote something else, that has nothing to do with this blog, or my forum. So I warn my regular readers of this.

This was the advert I came across below when I googled. And I am not happy.

Chat Box

Liz’s HOH Forum?proud to be back, up and running « Liz’s HOH Blog. There is a Chat Box too, where you can chat live with other people.
singles-mission.com/chat-box.php – Cached

Click on it, and you get a woman on the bed with a laptop in her underwear chatting. My regular readers and forum members will know, that my Chat Box is nothing like this. Instead it’s a chance to chat with other deaf/hoh like ourselves. This site did not have my permission to take wording from my blog, for their benefit.

And I certainly do not want to be associated that way.

I have emailed this company concerned, and I have also reported it to Google. I hope this is removed, very soon.

Anyone else had his problem?

Strange

Posted in Uncategorized with tags on February 3, 2010 by l1zblog

I’ve noticed ever since I’ve come from hospital Sunday. I can’t drink tea, unless I put sugar in it. And I don’t normally have sugar.

When it first happened Sunday. I nearly spat my tea out, and thought the after was to blame. But I tried Richard’s tea, and his was ok. So I drank that. He has sugar in his. So I put it down to brushing my teeth when I freshened myself up. But thinking about it. I thought that was odd, because you normally taste the toothpaste if that’s to blame. And I didn’t.

I still find now I can’t drink tea unless I put a teaspoon a sugar in. But I’m ok with other drinks. They taste ok. I find I’m able to drink my first mug of tea in the morning alright, but after that. Yuk! And in goes the sugar.

Strange.

Also at the moment, which I think is understandable, to how I’ve been.  I have to think that little bit harder, to absorb information. To get my head around it. Not all the ime, but sometimes I have. So I hope all things get back to normal soon.

2 weeks off

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , on February 2, 2010 by l1zblog

I’m off work for a further 2 weeks, after I went to see my doctor today for a sick note. She seemed surprised to see me. The first thing she said was ‘they’d let you go then?’ I said yes…. was discharged Sunday, after I had my dinner.

We discussed about what happened to me once admitted to Queens Medical Centre, and what medication I have since being discharged. She wanted to know if I had a follow-up appointment. I told her I was expecting this in the post.

She explained to me how they phoned her asking questions about my hearing, like, why do I wear hearing aids? and why am I deaf? I said they’d been asking me this too, along with how deaf am I.

I’m sure somewhere in this blog, I have mentioned about how I don’t have these answers, because when I first received my hearing aids back in 2002, after being told of my hearing loss. They did not have any answer for me, other than my childhood ear infections I had in my right ear, are probably what have made that ear more deafer than the other ear.  And that working in a noisy environment may not have helped, but can’t be proven, because I started experiencing hearing problems before this!

My MRI scan came back clear then, when I had one. So no answers there. And I did not damage my ears as a kid, with music through head phones, when the personal cassette player was all the rage.

This is something that ENT can’t get their head around at Queens Medical Centre. Neither can I! But I can’t do anything about it.

So I’m a medical mystery.

Can’t win

Posted in Uncategorized with tags on February 1, 2010 by l1zblog

Can’t win. I’m concerned as you know that I don’t want to lose more hearing, but I’m in a situation myself that I’ve read in the past on other blogs and forums.

I got worse on Friday, so without any say from myself…. which I was in no state to argue anyway, my Mum rang the doctors to get me in. From there I was straight from the doctors to the hospital by ambulance, to Queens Medical Centre, which after being checked over they admitted me. The longest wait, was waiting for a bed there.

While there from Friday till Sunday, they gave me antibiotics intravenously, and in ear drop form too, as well as painkillers. Although still not well, I had improved hell of a lot Saturday afternoon, compared to Friday.

Saturday night a doctor from ENT put something very small in my ear, that once wet with antibiotics, puffs up, as so drops can make a better contact for longer in the ear, hoping this would clear the last of it.

The doctor came back Sunday morning to see how I was. Because I was a lot better; my major head pain had disappeared,  to being just around the ear and the ear itself, and the pain was manageable to sometimes being able to ignore it. I was able to go home that day. So after I had my dinner and my medication to take home was ready, the little thing they put in my ear was removed, and I was able to go home.

I have to use my ear drops for the next five days, which after reading notes, in high doses it can possibly make you deaf, along with a course of other antibiotics and painkillers, and an appointment will come through the post, for a follow-up appointment back at Queens Medical Centre. I’m hoping that as I’m only having two drops in the ear morning and evening, that the risk of deafness for me using these is nil. But then not treating the infection would possibly make me lose some more of my hearing anyway. Can’t win!

Today I did not go to work, but I was planning on going back tomorrow. I now realise I’m still not ready, as I’m tired and have dizzy/wobbly moments, and a bit of nausea. So it means I will have to see a doctor tomorrow for a sick note, and I will have to see how I am from there.

The Skull and The Ear

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , on January 26, 2010 by l1zblog

I thought I’d add two links here in a seperate post after my recent problems, which is still troublesome as I write this at the moment. The skull diagram helped me, after recognising the name my doctor mentioned this time, and last June when I had this problem, which is the mastoid. This is where my doctor believes I have an infection going.

Hope you find it an interesting read.
